Let's talk about the Menopause!

The benefits of yoga for your body and mind, as well as all around emotional and physical wellbeing is well documented. However, did you know that research has proven that practicing yoga during the stages of menopause (pre, during and post) can actually help reduce and in some cases prevent, memory loss and aid healthy brain function?

Practicing yoga regularly can also help to reduce cellular ageing and boost your metabolic rate to induce feelings of wellbeing. Before, during and as the effects of menopause reduce, it is not uncommon to feel out of sorts, a little down, or anxious; feelings that may well be alien to you and that you do not recognise in your normal self. This array of generalised side-effects, suffered more or less by many or some can be reduced by practicing yoga. Research shows that yoga can significantly reduce menopausal symptoms like hot flushes , joint pain, low mood and anxiety and is the reason why many medics and holistic therapists recommend yoga for those pre, during and at the end of their menopausal journey.

Weight bearing exercise is proved to reduce symptoms of osteoporosis and bone density loss , a common problem among menopausal women and the movements and breath work offered in yoga can mediate hot flashes, reduce menopause-related insomnia. In turn yoga can also help to reduce or eliminate menopausal anxiety and depression, a truly welcome benefit.

Time and time again, it has been proven that yoga can and does lead to a reduction in menopausal symptoms, therefore improving the quality perimenopausal and menopausal life. We all have to go through this stage in our female lives, as do the male companions of many. What have you got to lose?
